Extended Educational Trips

In-Depth Coffee Program

The three day in-depth program is dedicated to the processing steps, from the seed to the availability of green coffee for exportation. The education program is presented by Thomas Plattner, Agronom ETH, Coffee and Africa Expert with over 20 years of experience. Participants, in addition to hands-on tasks and training on the farm, will gain knowledge on the theoretical aspects related to processing:

• Biology to picking
• Picking to pulping process
• Milling and cupping

IMPRESSIONS OF THE SEVEN DAY IN-DEPTH PROGRAM

Day One

  • Arrival at Dar es Salaam airport in the evening
  • Pick up and transfer to Mövenpick Royal Palm Hotel or Southern Sun Hotel
  • Overnight stay

Day Two

  • Breakfast buffet
  • Transfer from hotel to airport
  • Flight operated by Flightlink Airline from Dar es Salaam to Mbeya
  • Pick up and transfer to the Utengule Coffee Lodge (www.riftvalley-zanzibar.com)
  • Welcome by Hotel Manager
  • Allocation of rooms
  • Tour of Utengule Coffee Lodge – Dinner

Day Three

  • Full board at Utengule Coffee Lodge
  • In-depth coffee programme at Songwa and Utengule farms
  • Voluntary sports activities in late afternoon

Day Four

  • Full board at Utengule Coffee Lodge
  • Visiting the Muvwa Primary School
  • In-depth coffee programme at Songwa and Utengule farms

Day Five

  • Full board at Utengule Coffee Lodge
  • In-depth coffee programme at Songwa and Utengule farms
  • Surprise evening Event

Day Six

  • Breakfast at Utengule Coffee Lodge 
  • Transfer by Minibus to Iringa
  • Pick-up and transfer to Tandala Camp
  • Game drive, dinner & overnight stay at Tandala Camp

Day Seven

  • Breakfast at Tandala Camp
  • Game drive
  • Transfer to Msembe air strip
  • Flight by ten-seater private charter plane from park directly to Dar es Salaam airport
  • Transfer by individual taxi from Terminal 1 to International Terminal 2 (about 5 min)
  • Departure from Dar es Salaam in the evening
